Coaches and athletes at BASIS International & Bilingual Schools Chengdu engage in focused training for the new season: honing technique, forging teamwork, and studying the flow of play to outthink opponents. They are building not only stamina but savvy, transforming discipline into instinct.

Each effort is a step toward surpassing their personal best, written in sweat and dedication. Their coaches have been there every step of the way, witnessing, guiding, and now sharing their frontline stories and support.

Mixed Frisbee

Compared with other sports, Ultimate Frisbee is unique in that it is a co-ed sport, meaning that the team consists of both boys and girls who play together. This can sometimes be a hurdle to get over, but it also allows the opportunity to develop greater understanding and inclusivity. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters to all team members is having fun, competing, and striving for excellence.

Volleyball

What’s truly impressed me lately is how my players lift each other up. During our last competition, when a teammate struggled with her spikes, no one complained or placed blame. Instead, they rallied around her, offered encouragement, and cheered for every small win she achieved. To my squad: Your teamwork and resilience make every practice meaningful.

Basketball

The past few weeks of training have been both fun and rewarding. It’s been a great time bonding with our players and seeing their energy on the court. I’ve been really impressed by how our new talents have blended in so quickly and how our returning players have stepped up as leaders. The teamwork, hustle, and positive spirit during practice truly stood out. As our season approaches, I’m excited to see how far we can go together. Let’s keep pushing each other, showing sportsmanship, and supporting one another both on and off the court. Go team!

Coaching the U15 girls’ basketball team has been fantastic so far! Even after just three sessions, the energy, teamwork, and enthusiasm have been great to see. The players are already showing real improvement and a strong willingness to learn. We’ve had some good laughs along the way too, which makes every session even more enjoyable. I’m really looking forward to watching this group grow and seeing what we can achieve together this season!

Mixed Tennis

I’ve had a fantastic experience getting the tennis team started here! Tennis is a growing game worldwide, and a skill that one can utilize for a lifetime, in competition and even just for self-fitness. We have so many talented tennis players and I look forward to not only helping them bettering their tennis skills, but also their work ethic and self-discipline tendencies!

Soccer

Being the founding coach of the Fighting Panda Soccer Team has been an absolute blast. Our players come to practice and are working hard but also enjoying the game. It has been so fun to see all the members willing to challenge themselves. From all the practices, most often we are all leaving practice laughing about what happened during practice and taking those memories. One aspect I am insanely proud of the team for embracing is that whether it is a win or a loss, they come away with extremely positive attitudes and come back to practice willing to work and improve for the next game.
