Teaching abroad with BASIS International & Bilingual Schools offers a unique blend of professional growth and personal passions. Jose Valcarel, founding art teacher at BASIS International & Bilingual Schools Wuhan, exemplifies this by integrating his love for cycling into his life in Wuhan. Jose’s passion for cycling led him to found the REGANMIAN cycling club. This club unites diverse individuals through a shared love for cycling and life on two wheels. Here, Jose shares how cycling has shaped his life and enriched his experience in Wuhan.
Jose’s Cycling History
Cycling has been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember. At the age of 11, I eagerly embarked on my cycling journey, racing and training alongside my dad. Since then, cycling has held a central place in my life, shaping my experiences and enriching my adventures.
From the picturesque landscapes of Thailand to the rugged terrains of Myanmar, and from the rolling hills of Spain to the winding roads of the U.K., my bicycle has been my faithful companion, carrying me through countless miles of exploration and discovery. Each pedal stroke has been a testament to my passion for cycling and a celebration of the freedom it represents.
To me, cycling embodies more than just physical activity; it symbolizes freedom, effort, self-discipline, and friendship. It’s the exhilarating rush of wind against my face as I glide down a hill, the satisfying burn of muscles pushing me forward, and the camaraderie shared with fellow cyclists along the way.
Cycling in Wuhan
Now, in the vibrant city of Wuhan, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with local cyclists and share our love for the sport. Together, we’ve founded a cycling club called REGANMIAN, named after the famous local breakfast delicacy: hot-dry noodles. Just like the flavorful blend of ingredients in REGANMIAN, our cycling club brings together individuals from diverse backgrounds, united by our shared passion for cycling and a zest for life on two wheels.
Through REGANMIAN, we not only explore the streets and trails of Wuhan but also foster a sense of community and camaraderie among cyclists of all levels. Whether we’re tackling challenging climbs, embarking on scenic routes, or simply enjoying the thrill of a leisurely ride, our cycling club embodies the spirit of adventure, friendship, and shared experiences that make cycling truly special.
As I continue to pedal through life, I’m grateful for the countless memories, friendships, and experiences that cycling has brought me. With every ride, I’m reminded of the boundless joy and freedom that cycling has to offer, inspiring me to keep exploring, pushing my limits, and embracing the journey ahead, one pedal stroke at a time.
