After three long years, the pandemic-induced separation finally came to an end, and I found myself back in the vibrant city of Mexico. As a teacher, my summer holiday turned out to be an extraordinary adventure filled with cherished moments, exploring the wonders of my beloved hometown.
Reuniting with my friends and family was undoubtedly the highlight of my vacation. The laughter, the stories, and the warmth of their company created an atmosphere of pure joy. We spent quality time together, reminiscing about old memories and creating new ones to treasure. The bonds we share grew stronger, reminding me of the importance of nurturing relationships beyond the confines of a classroom.
During my stay, I embarked on a journey to rediscover the city’s iconic landmarks and monuments. The Angel of Independence, standing tall along El Paseo de La Reforma, stirred a sense of pride within me. It served as a powerful symbol of Mexico’s rich history and unwavering spirit. Another fascinating visit was to Los Pinos, the former presidential residence. Walking through its grand halls, I couldn’t help but feel a deep connection to the leaders who once shaped the destiny of our nation.
Of course, no trip to Mexico City would be complete without indulging in its delectable culinary delights. I savoured every moment relishing the flavours of traditional dishes and exploring the vast array of street food. From the unique taste of Nopales (cactus leaves) to different types of tacos, my taste buds rejoiced. And let’s not forget the mouthwatering desserts and aromatic coffee that tantalized my senses with every sip and bite.
As an art enthusiast, I made it a point to immerse myself in the city’s vibrant art scene. A visit to Frida Kahlo’s house was like stepping into a world of creativity and passion. It was a remarkable experience to witness the environment that nurtured the genius of this iconic artist. Moreover, I had the opportunity to explore “The Milky Way” exhibition, where sculptures in the shape of cows were transformed by the diverse imaginations of various artists. It was a testament to the boundless possibilities of artistic expression.
But my summer adventures did not end there. In the state of Querétaro, I attended a captivating wine tasting session. Here, I learned the art of pressing grapes and witnessed the intricate winemaking process. It was an enlightening experience that deepened my appreciation for the craftsmanship behind every bottle.
On my way back to China, I made a brief stopover in San Francisco, where I immersed myself in the vibrant atmosphere of Fisherman’s Wharf. The lively energy, the bustling crowds, and the aroma of fresh seafood filled the air. And, of course, I couldn’t resist visiting the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, a testament to human engineering marvels.
As I prepare to return to Shenzhen and embark on a new academic year, my heart is filled with anticipation. I eagerly look forward to exploring our new campus and engaging my art students in exciting and creative projects. The memories and experiences from my summer holiday will undoubtedly enrich my teaching, allowing me to bring a renewed sense of enthusiasm and inspiration to the classroom.
In conclusion, my summer holiday in Mexico City was a vibrant tapestry of joy, exploration, and cultural immersion. It reminded me of the power of connection, the beauty of art, and the importance of savouring life’s little pleasures. As I reflect on these unforgettable moments, I’m filled with gratitude for the opportunity to have such a remarkable experience.
