We are thrilled to share groundbreaking news that has sent ripples through the global AI industry—BASIS International School Park Lane Harbour senior student Nathan C. has co-created a revolutionary AI technical achievement in collaboration with Kimi/Moonshot AI, a leading AI research company, marking a remarkable milestone for a high school student in the AI industry.

Rethinking How AI Processes Information

Over the past two months, Nathan has dedicated himself to intensive research with Moonshot AI, co-authoring a pivotal technical paper on Attention Residuals—a breakthrough that redefines how AI models process information. Currently, mainstream AI models treat all information equally during processing, which buries key details in massive data and causes inefficiency, much like piling up every scrap of paper into a messy heap. Nathan’s co-created solution acts as an intelligent filing system for AI: it empowers the model to selectively retain and prioritize critical information instead of mindlessly storing all calculation data. This innovative design cuts computing costs by approximately 25% without compromising performance and can be seamlessly integrated into existing AI systems, offering a practical and efficient upgrade for the industry.

Global Recognition and Industry Impact
This is Nathan’s first paper as the co-author, and its impact has been nothing short of sensational since its release just days ago. Garnering over 2 million views in the first 12 hours, the paper has caught the eye of top figures in the global tech and AI sectors. Elon Musk, who rarely makes public comments on specific technical papers, even left a note in the comment section: “Impressive work from Kimi.” The research is now being eagerly studied by AI laboratories worldwide, and Nathan is recognized as the most significant technical contributor to this achievement.

Balancing Advanced Research with Student Life

What makes this accomplishment even more extraordinary is that Nathan balanced this high-level AI research with his full academic coursework and school responsibilities at BASIS International School Park Lane Harbour. For a high school student to drive a breakthrough that influences the development of the next generation of large-scale AI systems while excelling in his studies is a testament to his exceptional intellect, applied creativity, and remarkable self-discipline—qualities that have flourished during his time at our school.

Words from Nathan C.

Seeing my name attached to an AI breakthrough—and getting an unexpected shoutout from Elon Musk—still feels surreal. Just a few months ago, my biggest worry was finishing my school assignments on time.
Collaborating with the team at Kimi Moonshot was an incredible deep dive into the internal mechanisms of AI. I’ve always been fascinated by how these models process information; our paper on “Attention Residuals” is basically about teaching AI to drop the useless noise and keep only what matters. Ironically, that’s exactly the survival skill I had to learn to balance this research with my classes at BIPH.
I’m incredibly grateful. I want to thank the Kimi team for taking a high schooler’s ideas seriously, and my teachers at BASIS International School Park Lane Harbour for giving me the space to test those ideas. Throughout my past eight years here, I’ve always been encouraged to chase my weirdest questions. Stripping away the hype, however, I’m still just a student who finds fulfillment in deeply understanding how things work. There are still so many abstractions left to break down—in AI, and in life. Each day, I’m embracing chances to be beautifully bad at something new. Next Chapter: new Uni roommates, new firsts, many to be continued!
A Well-Deserved Congratulations
Nathan’s achievement has not only brought pride to himself but also made BASIS International & Bilingual Schools stand out on the global AI research stage. We are incredibly proud to witness our student making waves in the AI industry and look forward to his continued success in his future academic and research journey!
