Many are calling this college admissions application year “the hardest in history,” yet our students of the Class of 2021 have defied expectations. The qualities that we have witnessed this year are not only their excellence, but also their dedication, tolerance, and even their fighting spirit.

This year, 64 students from BASIS International Schools Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Park Lane Harbour have received 413 offers, with scholarships of $1.78 million in total. They have been accepted by prestigious universities such as MIT, Dartmouth, Cornell, University of Chicago, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, Duke, Oxford, Imperial College London, University College London, and University of Toronto. University of California Berkeley alone issued 10 offers to our students, demonstrating its recognition of BASIS International Schools in China; the University of Toronto, ranked number 1 in Canada (QS World University Rankings), sent our students 22 acceptances as well. All students who applied to art institutions were accepted by Top 4 colleges in QS World University Ranking for Art & Design.

At BASIS International School Shenzhen, our 27 graduates of the Class of 2021 have received 175 offers. Of the 23 students applying to academic universities in the United States, 83% received offers from schools ranked in the Top 30 of the US News and World Report; 100% received offers from schools ranked in the Top 50. These included Cornell, Vanderbilt, University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern University, Duke, Dartmouth, Washington University St. Louis, University of California Los Angeles, Emory, and University of California Berkeley.

The Class of 2021 is the first graduating class for BASIS International School Guangzhou. There are 35 students in this class, and they received 236 offers. 71% of students received offers from schools ranked in the Top 30 in the US News and World Report and/or UK schools ranked in the Top 5 in Times Higher Education. 93% of students are admitted to US Top 50 and/or UK Top 5 schools. Of these, students received offers from Oxford, Imperial College London, Rice, Cornell, University of California Los Angeles, Emory, University of California Berkeley, University College London, and University of Toronto.

Two students from BASIS International School Park Lane Harbour, though only in Grade 11, won early admissions to two top STEM institutions: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Imperial College London.

This application year may have started with many uncertainties, but it has ended with a final, definitive answer: No matter what, BASIS International Schools students are ready.
