The 2023 global university admissions season is coming to a close. Despite the increasing intensity and difficulty of the U.S. undergraduate schools applications, BASIS International Schools · China has bucked the trend and continues to see incredible admissions results and breakthroughs in admissions to top universities. Of the 182 graduates from five campuses, 174 applied to academic majors, with an average of five offers per student. Among them, 28 students received 39 offers from top universities, including Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, University of Chicago, Ivy League schools, the Top 10 U.S. Universities, the Top 2 U.S. Liberal Arts Colleges and Oxford and Cambridge in the UK, accounting for 16% of the total.
This year, BASIS International School Nanjing, founded in September 2019, witnessed its first graduating class, bringing five campuses of BASIS International Schools · China to join the global university admissions competition. As of April 10, 2023, 182 graduates from BASIS International School Shenzhen, BASIS International School Guangzhou, BASIS International School Park Lane Harbour, BASIS International School Hangzhou and BASIS International School Nanjing have received 949 offers and a total of US$4,771,268 in scholarships.
Of the 174 students who applied to academic majors, 110 (63%) were admitted to the Top 30 U.S. Universities and/or Top 5 UK Universities and/or Top 2 Canadian Universities and/or Top 10 U.S. Liberal Arts Colleges. 160 (92%) were admitted to the Top 50 U.S. Universities and/or Top 10 UK Universities and/or Top 3 Canadian Universities and/or Top 3 Hong Kong Universities and/or Top 20 U.S. Liberal Arts Colleges.
BASIS International Schools · China has achieved remarkable admissions results despite the low acceptance rates and rising admissions difficulties at Harvard University, Stanford University and other top schools. However, BASIS International School Park Lane Harbour led the Greater Bay Area with two offers in the regular admissions stage, marking a breakthrough for BASIS International Schools · China in Harvard University admissions. Additionally, BASIS International School Shenzhen received one offer from Stanford University, according to its final list released on April 1.
In addition to the U.S. and UK admissions, BASIS International Schools · China also performed solidly in art and other disciplines this year. Eight students who applied to art majors received a total of 12 offers from the Top 5 art schools worldwide, including University of the Arts London, The New School Parsons (formerly known as Parsons School of Design) and Rhode Island School of Design. Additionally, McGill University, The University of Toronto, The University of Melbourne, The University of Sydney, The University of Hong Kong and other world-renowned universities have also made offers, showing a high level of recognition of BASIS International Schools · China students.
BASIS International School Shenzhen College Acceptances
With 24 graduates in the mighty BASIS International School Shenzhen Class of 2023 (23 of whom applied to academic majors), we received 132 offers including over US$800,000 in scholarships. One student was accepted by University of Oxford; eight students (33% of the class) received 10 offers from Ivy League schools and/or Top 10 U.S. Universities, including Stanford University, Johns Hopkins University, Duke University, Northwestern University, and Cornell University. Johns Hopkins University, a world top research university, issued three offers, and the wildly popular University of California Berkeley accepted 6 of our students alone.
Of the 23 academic students, more than half received offers from Top 20 U.S. Universities and/or Top 3 UK Universities; 87% were accepted by Top 30 U.S. Universities and/or UK Top 3 Universities and/or Canadian Top 2 Universities; 96% were admitted to Top 50 U.S. Universities and/or Top 5 UK Universities and/or Top 2 Canadian Universities. And with an ED1 acceptance rate of 45%, 11 hard-working, passionate students were accepted into their dream schools by mid-December. They truly stood out in a crowded application pool, proving to everyone that the BASIS International School Shenzhen Class of 2023 has arrived.

The illustrious Class of 2023 at BASIS International School Guangzhou has set a remarkable precedent by achieving phenomenal success. Comprised of 42 exceptional graduates, the cohort has received 240 acceptance letters and was offered scholarships amounting to US$705,173. For the third year running, BASIS International School Guangzhou students have proven to be outstanding scholars, with 10% of the Class of 2023 securing admission into Ivy League institutions, and an additional 10% receiving acceptances at Top 10 U.S. Universities and Top 15 U.S. Liberal Arts Colleges. In addition, students who are pursuing studies in the fine arts, performing arts, architecture, and film studies received offers from some of the most prestigious programs in the world, including the Rhode Island School of Design, Tufts University, California Institute for the Arts and Rice University. Remarkably, 65% of BASIS International School Guangzhou students who applied to academic majors were accepted into a Top 30 U.S. University, Top 5 UK University, Top 2 Canadian University, or Top 10 U.S. Liberal Arts College. All students (100%) received acceptances from a Top 50 U.S. University, Top 10 UK University, Top 3 Canadian University, Top 3 Hong Kong University, or Top 20 U.S. Liberal Arts College. With its consistent, exceptional academic performance, BASIS International School Guangzhou continues to be the most outstanding international school in the city for admissions worldwide. The Class of 2023 has received nine Ivy League offers during this application cycle, including two from Harvard University, one from Princeton University, one from the University of Pennsylvania, and five from Cornell University. Moreover, our graduating class have also received offers from the Top 10 U.S. Universities such as Johns Hopkins University, Duke University and Northwestern University, Williams College and Amherst College – the first and the second ranked Liberal Arts Colleges in the U.S., as well as University of Cambridge in the UK. Additionally, Rice University and UCLA respectively released three and eight offers to us this year. The Class of 2023 also excelled in gaining college acceptances in art programs, receiving 27 offers from top-notch worldwide art schools, such as University of the Arts London, Rhode Island School of Design, The New School Parsons etc. Of the 78 students applying to academic majors, 54% were accepted by the Top 30 U.S. Universities and/or the Top 10 U.S. Liberal Arts Colleges and/or the Top 5 UK Universities and/or the Top 2 Canadian Universities; 85% were accepted by the Top 50 U.S. Universities and/or the Top 20 U.S. Liberal Arts Colleges and/or the Top 10 UK Universities and/or the Top 3 Canadian Universities and/or the Top 3 Universities in Hong Kong. In addition to a first-time Ivy League acceptance from Cornell University, they also received offers from Johns Hopkins University and Duke University, which are ranked in the Top 10 in the nation, and Williams College, the Top 1 Liberal Arts College in the U.S. In addition, one student received UC Berkeley’s most prestigious scholarship, The Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholarship, in the amount of US$140,000, which is a highly selective and valuable opportunity. This year marked our first graduating class, a group of seven students that have applied to a variety of majors and universities. This year’s graduates have received a total of 52 offers along with a total of US$296,000 in scholarships. This equates to an average of more than 7 college offers per student. BASIS International School Nanjing students’ U.S. applications received offers from Washington University in St. Louis, University of California Berkeley, the University of Southern California, and other renowned universities. University applications in the UK also proved fruitful as BASIS International School Nanjing received 1 offer from University of Oxford and 1 offer from Imperial College London. In general, all students received offers from Top 50 U.S. Universities, and 71% of students were admitted to Top 30 U.S. Universities, Top 5 UK Universities, and/or Top 2 Canadian Universities.
