The 2024 global university admissions season is coming to a close. BASIS International Schools · China students have been rising to challenges without fear, endeavoring to scale the academic peak—top colleges and universities around the world, and finally usher in a season of fruitful harvest.

Breakthroughs in the U.S. and the U.K. Admissions

This year, 206 graduates from five campuses (BASIS International School Shenzhen, BASIS International School Guangzhou, BASIS International School Park Lane Harbour, BASIS International School Hangzhou, and BASIS International School Nanjing) have received 1,040 offers and a total of US$4,509,933 in scholarships. Among the 200 students applying for academic majors, 17 students received 19 offers from the most elite universities (Ivy League and/or the Top 10 U.S. Universities and/or the Top 2 U.S. Liberal Arts Colleges and/or the Top 2 U.K. Universities), including Princeton University, Stanford University, Northwestern University, Johns Hopkins University, Cornell University, Williams College (the Top 1 U.S. Liberal Arts College), the University of Cambridge, etc. These most recognized universities worldwide have maintained their recognition of our students by making offers in recent consecutive admission seasons. The University of Chicago, the University of California Berkeley, the University of California Los Angeles, Rice University, Vanderbilt University, Carnegie Mellon University, Emory University, and other top universities have continued to recognize the excellence of our students and have issued multiple offers to the Class of 2024.

BASIS International School Shenzhen witnessed success in the early admission stage, with students accepted to the most selective universities, particularly Princeton University and Stanford University, which respectively rank 1st and 3rd nationwide and have made offers to BASIS International students for three consecutive years. In the past three years, students from BASIS International School Guangzhou, BASIS International School Park Lane Harbour, and BASIS International School Shenzhen were admitted to Princeton University in succession, while Stanford University also successively embraced our students from Park Lane Harbour, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou campuses. During the regular admission stage, students from five campuses successfully secured acceptances from top universities, including Johns Hopkins University and Northwestern University. The performance in admissions to the top U.K. universities was brilliant as well, with a total of 34 offers from the top 5 universities.

Of the 200 students who applied for academic majors, 133 (67%) were admitted to the Top 30 U.S. Universities and/or the Top 10 U.S. Liberal Arts Colleges and/or the Top 5 U.K. Universities and/or the Top 1 Canadian University and/or the Top 1 Hong Kong University. 193 (97%) were admitted to the Top 50 U.S. Universities and/or the Top 20 U.S. Liberal Arts Colleges and/or the Top 10 U.K. Universities and/or the Top 3 Canadian Universities and/or the Top 3 Hong Kong Universities. These incredible results demonstrate a high level of recognition of our students for their outstanding academic capabilities, personal qualities, leadership abilities, and volunteer service.

Leap in STEM Admissions

In academic majors, BASIS International Schools · China continued to maintain its advantage in comprehensive and specialized education, with steady performance in humanities majors and breakthroughs in STEM majors. A number of students were admitted to majors such as biology, physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, and data science, including biology programs at Stanford University, Biomedical Engineering program at Johns Hopkins University (ranking 1st in the U.S.), the Architecture program at Cornell University, and the Natural Sciences (Physics) program at the University of Cambridge. Twelve acceptances from Carnegie Mellon University were secured by our graduates, including the Electrical and Computer Engineering program (ranking 2nd nationwide in computer science). The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a leading public research university in multiple engineering disciplines that has long been known for its fierce application competition, issued a total of 49 offers to our students.

Worldwide Bountiful Harvest in Well-rounded Disciplines

In an environment that encourages well-rounded development, BASIS International Schools · China students have long been challenging themselves to unleash their potential in diversified fields. Diverse paths to higher education open up infinite possibilities for our students. In addition to the U.S. and U.K. admissions, our graduates received offers from top-tier universities all around the world, including 35 from the University of Toronto (ranking 1st in Canada) and 21 from the University of Hong Kong (ranking 1st in Hong Kong, China). Other world-renowned universities, such as the University of Melbourne, the University of Sydney, McGill University, the University of Waterloo, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, also made waves of offers to our students. Remarkably, a student from BASIS International School Guangzhou will become the first student to play as a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I golf athlete. He signed a letter of intent with the golf team at UC Irvine, where he will major in Global Cultures.

This year’s graduates also performed impressively in arts and other disciplines such as fine arts, illustration, music, film art, and game design, receiving offers from top art colleges, including The New School (Parsons), Pratt Institute, and School of the Art Institute of Chicago. 2 students from BASIS International School Guangzhou were admitted to the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California, the acceptance rate for which is merely 3%, respectively majoring in Cinema & Media Studies and Interactive Media & Game Design that ranked 1st nationwide (referenced from The Hollywood Reporter, USA Today, and U.S. News & World Report). The most world-renowned Berklee College of Music and Los Angeles College of Music also made offers to our students.

The 2024 application season is full of uncertainty and unprecedented challenges. 7 Students Admitted to Top Universities, 21 Achieved Acceptances to Their Dream Schools in Early Rounds

Fifty graduates in BASIS International School Shenzhen Class of 2024 received 272 offers in total and US$1,080,956 in scholarships. Seven students received seven offers from Ivy League schools and the Top 10 U.S. Universities, including Princeton University, Stanford University, Northwestern University, and Cornell University. Of the 49 academic students, 43% (21) achieved acceptances to their first-choice schools in ED or REA rounds; 86% (42) were admitted to the Top 30 U.S. Universities and/or the Top 10 U.S. Liberal Arts Colleges and/or the Top 5 U.K. Universities and/or the Top 1 Canadian University; 100% graduates were offered places at the Top 50 U.S. Universities and/or the Top 20 U.S. Liberal Arts Colleges and/or the Top 10 U.K. Universities and/or Top 1 Canadian University.

Though New York University was especially competitive this year, we are proud of our students for earning acceptances to its world-renowned Stern School of Business and Tisch School of the Arts. In addition to the U.S. and U.K. admissions, the Top 1 universities in Canada and Hong Kong issued 18 offers to our students (with a 100% acceptance rate for the University of Toronto). A non-academic major student gained acceptances to world-famous conservatories — Berklee College of Music and Los Angeles College of Music with a total of US$56,000 scholarships.

Breakthroughs in the U.S. and U.K. Admissions, 46% ED Acceptance Rate

BASIS International School Guangzhou’s Class of 2024 has had a phenomenal application season. Overall, the entire class of 47 graduates applied for academic majors, having thus far received 267 acceptances and US$1,123,200 in scholarships. Remarkably, our students achieved two outstanding results in increasingly competitive acceptances of STEM majors at leading universities, including one admission to Cambridge University (physics) and one to Stanford University (biology). 17 (46%) of 37 students secured their spot in the Early Decision round. 51% (24) of the students were admitted to the Top 30 U.S. Universities and/or the Top 10 U.S. Liberal Arts Colleges and/or the Top 5 U.K. Universities, while 100% of students were admitted to the Top 50 U.S. Universities and/or the Top 20 U.S. Liberal Arts Colleges and/or the Top 10 U.K. Universities. One student was admitted to the top 1 university in Australia with a Biomedical major.

Our students had excellent results across numerous disciplines, particularly in STEM subjects, as we racked up offers in biology, physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, and data science, including one in biomedical engineering at Johns Hopkins University, two in mathematics at UC Berkeley and one in mechanical engineering at UCLA. Our business majors also excelled, including six acceptances from New York University, two of which are from the Stern School of Business, and nine from the University of Southern California, one of which is from the Marshall School of Business. Another student was admitted to a new course at Imperial College Business School in Economics, Finance & Data Science, where the offer rate is merely 3%. Our students were also highly successful in arts: two students were admitted to the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California, the acceptance rate for which is merely 3%, respectively majoring in Cinema & Media Studies and Interactive Media & Game Design that ranked 1st nationwide; and for the first time, a student was admitted to modern music production at the Berklee School of Music.

Majors in the Humanities and STEM; from Business to the Arts 

For BASIS International School Park Lane Harbour, 77 graduates from the Class of 2024 have, to date, received 332 offers totaling $1,425,672 in scholarships. The Class of 2024 has received eight offers of acceptance from the most selective U.S. universities—Ivy League schools and the Top 10 U.S. Universities—including Cornell University, Johns Hopkins University, and Northwestern University. In addition, 73 offers were obtained from the Top 30 U.S. Universities, including UCLA, UC Berkeley, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, Carnegie Mellon University, and our first admission to the University of Notre Dame. Students applied for majors in humanities, STEM, business, and arts, such as mathematics, computer science, environmental science, history, psychology, sociology, economics, etc. The Class of 2024 has also excelled in gaining offers of acceptance to creative arts programs, having received 12 offers from top-notch global art schools, such as The New School (Parsons), Pratt Institute, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Of the 74 students applying to academic programs, 58% (43 students) were accepted to the Top 30 U.S. Universities and/or the Top 10 U.S. Liberal Arts Colleges and/or the Top 5 U.K. Universities and/or the Canadian Top 1 University and/or Top 1 Hong Kong University. 92% (68 students) were accepted to the Top 50 U.S. Universities and/or the Top 20 U.S. Liberal Arts Colleges and/or the Top 10 U.K. Universities and/or the Canadian Top 3 Universities and/or the Top 3 Hong Kong Universities.

89% of Students Admitted to the Top 30 U.S. Universities, ED Williams College Acceptance

The 18 students in the BASIS International School Hangzhou Class of 2024, all of whom applied for academic majors, received 109 admission offers and a total amount of US$353,025 in scholarships. 56% of students who applied for Early Decision were admitted, including at Williams College, the Top 1 Liberal Arts College in the U.S. that admitted our students for the second consecutive year. This Early Decision success indicates how prudently and precisely this cohort made decisions during the school selection process. One student received a full scholarship to the University of Hong Kong (business major). This graduating class exemplified not only academic strength but a strong focus on their individual academic and personal interests, pursuing a broad range of majors, including psychology, mathematics, and game design.

Among the 18 students who applied for academic programs, 89% (16) received offers from the Top 30 U.S. Universities and/or the Top 5 U.K. Universities. 100% of students were admitted to the Top 50 U.S. Universities and/or the Top 20 Liberal Arts Colleges and/or the Top 10 U.K. Universities and/or Top 3 Canadian Universities and/or Top 3 Hong Kong Universities.

Admissions to Top Universities in the World: the U.S., the U.K., Canada & Australia

BASIS International School Nanjing celebrated its second graduating class this year with 14 students, receiving 60 admission offers and a total of US$527,080 in scholarships. The graduates received offers from the world’s top research universities in a variety of countries, including the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Australia. One student excelled in gaining college acceptances in art programs, receiving six offers from top-notch art schools worldwide, such as Savannah College of Art and Design (with US$40,000 in scholarships) and School of Visual Arts (SVA).

BASIS International School Nanjing students received U.S. admission offers from Emory University, the University of Southern California, the University of California Davis, and other world-renowned universities. Of the 12 students applying to academic majors, 75% (9) were accepted by the Top 30 U.S. Universities and/or the Top 1 Canadian University; 92% (11) were accepted by the Top 50 U.S. Universities and/or the Top 20 U.S. Liberal Arts Colleges and/or the Top 10 U.K. Universities and/or the Top 3 Canadian Universities.
