My name is Madalina Ailincai, and my journey with BASIS International & Bilingual Schools China has continually evolved. I joined BASIS International School Park Lane Harbour as a math teacher in August 2018–the year the school opened. As a new school, our founding team united around the common goal of creating the best boarding school in China, overcoming many challenges along the way.

Over the years, I transitioned from teaching mathematics to becoming the Chair of Mathematics. This shift allowed me to contribute to various school and network-wide projects, applying my mathematical expertise and educational background.

Being part of a growing network that recognizes and empowers its team members has been immensely fulfilling. I have actively participated in initiatives such as redesigning network-wide exams, developing the math curriculum, and creating assessments for admissions.

Our network strongly emphasizes professional growth, offering numerous opportunities for individual development. I particularly enjoyed the Management Training program, a year-long program I undertook in preparation for my next role as an administrator. Through it, I gained valuable insights into the responsibilities of a school manager–cultivating essential leadership skills, honing my strategic planning abilities, and learning practical conflict-resolution skills.

In August 2023, I proudly accepted the position of Vice Head of High School at BASIS International School Park Lane Harbour. Stepping into this new role has been a continuous learning experience, and I appreciate the chance to expand my expertise daily. My decision to shift into administration was motivated by the opportunity to contribute to the school’s development on a broader scale. As a classroom teacher, my positive influence was confined to the students in my class; as an administrator, I am able to collaborate with teachers and exponentially impact more people.

What sets the BASIS International & Bilingual Schools China network apart is its commitment to allowing administrators to remain engaged in teaching. Even as I advanced to an administrative role, I continued to have the privilege of teaching two AP Calculus AB/BC classes, providing me with a comprehensive perspective as both a teacher and leader.

As a school and network, we’ve encountered challenges, especially navigating the complexities of the pandemic several years ago. The support we received, from essential supplies to professional development in online teaching technologies, has been invaluable.

The students at BASIS International School Park Lane Harbour are a joy to teach–they are highly motivated and committed. If you’re ready to invest the time and patience to learn the BASIS system, it promises to be an unparalleled experience. The work is demanding but incredibly rewarding.

This academic year marks my sixth year at BASIS International School Park Lane Harbour, and I consider it my home away from home.
