Highlights from 2018

It has been an exciting year in 2018 for BASIS International Schools with many new beginnings and continued achievements. We’ve opened new locations, expanded our course and extracurricular offerings, and laid the beginnings for promising new campuses.

Some of our favorite highlights from 2018 include…

New Schools Open in Park Lane Harbour and Hangzhou, China

BASIS International School Park Lane Harbour and BASIS International School Hangzhou opened their doors to over 400 students each in September 2018. BASIS International School Park Lane Harbour began with grades 5-9 and will continue to expand until grades 5-12 are offered. It is also the second BASIS International School to offer weekday boarding for students. Students are enjoying a vibrant campus life, both in the dorms and during the regular school day.

BASIS International School Hangzhou also opened in September to students in Grades PreK – 9 and will continue to expand until it reaches a student capacity of 1,200 students in Grades PreK – 12. After establishing a solid presence in southern China with schools in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Huizhou, BASIS International School Hangzhou is our first school outside of Guangdong province and is located in Zhejiang province in eastern China. Sports teams have begun inter-school competitions, and the school recently held their first winter concert and spirit week.

BASIS International School Shenzhen Celebrates its First Graduate & Beginning of the First Full Graduating Class Senior Year

Established in 2015, BASIS International School Shenzhen celebrated its first graduate in May 2018. Following an outstanding senior project and presentation on shark conservation, this first graduate has gone on to study engineering at Cornell University. Our first full graduating class of 13 students has now begun their senior year and we look forward to many outstanding senior projects this spring as they head towards graduation in June 2019!

BASIS International School Guangzhou Finishes First School Year

The second BASIS International School in China, BASIS International School Guangzhou, completed its first school year in May 2018. The school opened in 2017 with almost 400 students in grades K – 9 and will expand each year until it reaches capacity of 1,200 students in grades PreK – 12. BASIS International School Guangzhou has seen many successes both academically and athletically in their first year, including winning gold and bronze medals at the Asia-Pacific Robotics Championship in Macau, and the debut of the Swimming Team at the GISAC Swimming Competition in October where they won 16 medals!

First International Teacher Training Summer Institute in China

All BASIS International Schools teachers came together in July 2018 at the Park Lane Harbour campus to learn about the BASIS Curriculum and culture, as well as get to know colleagues from both their own campus and other international locations. This was the first time the Summer Institute was held specifically for the BASIS International Schools and in China.

New After School Activities, Electives, Clubs, and Sports

From the medical club at BASIS International School Shenzhen, to the woodworking and ballet clubs at BASIS International School Hangzhou, BASIS International students are always learning and exploring new interests. Students initiate these clubs and activities based on their own level of interest.

New Schools for 2019: BASIS International School Nanjing & BASIS International School Bangkok

With the new year comes new schools. With new schools come new opportunities! Construction on the beautiful new campuses in Nanjing and Bangkok are well underway, on schedule, and will be completed for the September beginning of the 2019-20 school year. Interest in these new schools is very high and we are excited to continue to share opportunities and updates on these new locations with you.
